Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the WiiRemote

Posted by meme video guy On January - 7 - 2009

Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen. This effectively transforms your display into a portal to a virtual environment. The display properly reacts to head and body movement as if it were a real window creating a realistic illusion of depth and space. By Johnny Chung Lee, Carnegie Mellon University. 3D Medical Animation: Shoulder Dystocia Birth Injury

Posted by meme video guy On December - 30 - 2008

This 3D medical animation of shoulder dystocia in a newborn shows a vaginal delivery with the uterus removed for greater visibility of the brachial plexus in the neck and shoulder area of the fetus. As the baby is pushed through the mother’s pelvic outlet during labor, we see the infant’s shoulder being trapped beneath the mother’s pelvic bone (pubic symphysis) causing the nerves of the brachial plexus to be stretched and injured. This form of brachial plexus injury is called neuropraxia, and may result in symptoms including a limp or paralyzed arm; lack of muscle control in the arm, hand, or wrist; and lack of feeling or sensation in the arm or hand. 3D Medical Animation: Heart Attack from Atherosclerosis

Posted by meme video guy On December - 30 - 2008

This 3d medical animation shows a heart attack resulting from atherosclerosis, which is inflammation of an artery. It was designed to be an immersive experience to hold the viewer’s interest in this complex, slow-developing process. Every shot was conceptualized as a visual effect to evoke the sensation of a journey within a dynamic and diverse environment. Beginning with the probable cause, which is damage to the endothelial wall, the story progresses in detail through the stages of atherosclerosis concluding with the resulting damage to the heart. Heart Animation: Coronary Artery Angioplasty (Heart Stent)

Posted by meme video guy On December - 30 - 2008

This 3D heart animation shows a coronary angioplasty procedure to correct a blocked artery in the heart. It begins by showing the buildup of plaque in an artery wall of the heart, blocking the flow of blood. Afterwards, the patient lies on a testing table while contrast dye is injected into the arteries of the heart, showing the location of the blockage. A guide wire is then moved through the lumen of the blood vessel, followed by a balloon and stent mechanism. The balloon inflates, putting the metal stent in place, so that the lumen of the artery is open and the red blood cells can flow freely.
